A couple of days ago in our reading of the Psalms and Proverbs we had the opportunity to read Psalm 63. Today I want to invite you to read this Psalm 63:1-8 from the Message (which is a paraphrase of the Bible in contemporary language.)
Godyoure my God! I cant get enough of you! Ive worked up such hunger and thirst for God, traveling across dry and weary deserts.
So here I am in the place of worship, eyes open, drinking in your strength and glory. In your generous love I am really living at last! My lips brim praises like fountains. I bless you every time I take a breath; my arms wave like banners of praise to you.
I eat my fill of prime rib and gravy; I smack my lips. Its time to shout praises! If Im sleepless at midnight, I spend the hours in grateful reflection. Because youve always stood up for me, Im free to run and play. I hold on to you for dear life, and you hold me steady as a post. Psalm 63:1-8
Thomas Brooks once wrote concerning this Psalm, He doth not say my soul thirsteth for water, but my soul thirsteth for thee; nor he doth not say my soul thirsteth for the blood of enemies, but my soul thirsteth for thee; nor he doth not say my soul thirsteth for deliverance out of this dry and barren wilderness. But my soul thirsteth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; nor he doth not say my soul thirsteth for a crown, a kingdom, but my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee.
What is your soul thirsty for today? Are you in a dry and barren land? Are you struggling with some insurmountable circumstance? Are you angry or frustrated? Are you on a mountain top experience?
David in his psalm gives us a powerful reminder that we are to thirst after God and His praises are to always be on our lips. We are to look to God in the midst of all of our circumstances, good or bad, and thirst after His will and His ways!
With Christ in our lives can be steady when the strong winds blow! Would you take time today, like David, to lift up your praises to God for what He has done, and what He is going to do in your life?
